Growing Up or Growing Old?
But then, I thought again. Even if I was to be transported back in time, I would still slowly, but surely, grow to this present age again where time seems to be limited. Well, the answer to my earlier question I guess is that as we grow older, we would have more responsibilities, more priorities, meet new challenges, takes up things. Or in short, we have more things to do as we grow older. And of course, you may ask, if we have proper time management, wouldn’t and shouldn’t we have more time by our side then? But our priorities and our scope changes as we take on more things. Our issues become wider as we meet more people and we learn more every single day. These things do consume a considerable amount of our time that sometimes even a planned time management seems to be of no use.
Well, talking about growing older, it sets me thinking about another thing. Growing up and growing old. Is it the same or otherwise? What really bothers mi is to see people around my age, or even much older, behaving and doing silly/childish/foolish things that make it difficult to see upon them as adults. And of course, I’m not 100% innocent either. Occasionally, I do let the kid inside me shows itself. But what I’m talking about here are those people who act so childish constantly that makes their classification as "adults" seems like nothing but just a tag put upon them when they reach that certain age.
So, why are they acting that way when they are supposedly older and should then be more mature? Well, I realised that growing up and growing old are two separate things. Maturity doesn’t come with age. It differs from individual to individual. Some people may already have been more than 30 or 40 years old, yet their behaviour and ways of handling things are even more childish/irresponsible/immature than a 20 year old. Complicated it may sound but it’s true! Growing up and growing old are 2 different things. Some people grow old without growing up whereas some people grow up faster than they grow old.
There is a famous example which goes, “There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn 20 years old. If I am 87 years old, and stay in bed for a year, and never do anything, I will turn 88. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things they did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets”
Hmm, how true it is!! Well, not everyone grows up when they grows old I guess. It largely depends on each individual on how they choose to behave. So I guess, whether those people wants to be mature or not, it’s not up for me to decide. It’s their life. They can choose to grow up or not and I shall not be bothered. As the saying goes, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY, GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL!!
Hmm, quite a long post aye? But hey, this is a blog right? And furthermore it’s mine! I can choose to write how I’m feeling. Whether anyone bothers to read is, of course, another question. =X
